Module 1: A Primer on Gender Identity

This course will cover how to be more affirming to TGNC clients and patients through language by using appropriate terminology, pronouns, and discussing the diversity in TGNC communities.

Objectives

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Define and discuss gender identity, gender expression, and the sex/gender binary.

  • Gain a basic understanding of identities falling under the “trans umbrella” and appropriate terminology.

  • Discuss diversity within trans and gender nonconforming (TGNC) community and how culture influences gender identity.
